INTRODUCTION

Christians getting engaged should not be viewed with levity, as it is intended to lead to marriage. Marriage is a serious commitment for life, the most serious commitment we are going to make next to our relationship with God. It is a lifetime issue, hence the foundation must be well laid, and God never intended Christians to divorce. Mat. 19: 7-8.

 WHAT IS ENGAGEMENT

It is the coming together of a man and woman in agreement to get involved in a relationship that is intended to lead to marriage. Mat. 1: 18

WHAT T IS THE WILL OF GOD

The will of God is the word of God. What is the word of God? . . His will is that I should have a companion to share the rest of my life with. Gen. 2: 18

HOW WILL I KNOW THE WILL OF GOD

Christians have advantage over the unbeliever in facing decision. (Decision of a nice person is different from a believer)

To know the will of God there are certain steps on has to take:

• One has to be saved -1 Tim.2: 4.

• Filled with the Spirit. Eph.5: 17-18.

• Willingly yield yourself to his control. Rom.12: 1-2

o       Spiritual level of the person proposing should not intimidate me

o       Be ready to forgo at any point in time

o       Parental influence can affect your decision but it is not supposed to be so.

• Prayer & fasting. Matt. 7:7-8 What to pray for......

  • At any interest, pray ahead of time

  • Once mind is fixed, it is difficult to receive

  • Open mindedness

• Parent should always pray ahead Doing God's purpose.

• Jacob working for Laban .

• Signs are good confirmation if you are privileged.

 WHAT IS ENCOURAGED

Do not be in a hurry

Don't set standards that are too high

Don't expect God to force somebody on you

Don't get into deep involvement hoping to see how it just works out

Don't go into relationship just to please someone or when you are not satisfied.

LOVE AT EYESIGHT

This is an act of going into a relationship without becoming fully convinced by the scripture if that relationship is either right or wrong. 1 Cor. 6:12. Often it is the lust of the eyes that controls us, but it’s difficult to accept.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN CHOOSING A PARTNER

1. Man is looking for a woman verse versa

2. Christian born-again and spirit filled

3. Not equally yoked with unbelievers llCor.6: 14-17

Strange Gods 1 Kings 11:1-2, Deut. 7:3-4

4. Inner beauty IPet.3: 4

5. Not an angry person. Prov. 22:24

6. Lazy Christian/disorderly person 11 Thes. 3:6 7.

7. You must be of age - maturity and responsibility Gen.2: 15-18 8.

8. Race/township has nothing to do with marriage.

9. What we have in common. Discovering what is common between the 2 is not the issue; but that each partner has an accurate view of what that other is really like and that they are committed to the fact that God has joined them together permanently.

HOW DOES A MAN PERCEIVE A WOMAN

Give honor to them 1 Pet. 3:7

Dressing moderation. ITim.2: 9, 1 Cor. 6:12

Cooking/creativity. Prov. 30: 10
